Challenge
Sucroal’s production environment is installed in an IBM BladeCenter H, 2 Intel HS22 blades, with VMware virtualization and 2 IBM POWER PS700 blades with POWER 7 4-core processors, IBM i operating system, with a SAN IBM DS3500 type storage system and a stand-alone IBM SAS LTO 4 drive for the backup solution of its IBM i environment.
The solution that Sucroal had, did not offer adequate levels of performance to meet the demands of the company. In addition, the costs of warranties, parts and services of this equipment are high and difficult to obtain in the market.
Solution
The project contemplated the technological upgrade of the infrastructure the client had into a 3-blade x 240 IBM FlexSystem Enterprise Chassis and the consolidation of the 2 PS700 servers into one IBM p260 blade with POWER 7+ processor. The storage system was replaced with a brand-new IBM Storwize V3700.
For the automated backup of information, a new library IBM TS3200 logically partitioned was offered, where some units were connected to the IBM i environment, managed by IBM BRMS, and a backup solution was sold for the Open environment with TSM.
Hardware:
IBM FlexSystem Enterprise Chassis, 3-blade x240, 1 IBM p260 blade with POWER 7+ processor, IBM Storwize V3700 storage system, 1 IBM TS3200 library.
IBM BRMS was offered for the backup solution for IBM environment, i.e., IBM TSM for Open environments.
Benefits
The new solution gave Sucroal SA the capacity to support current and future loads from the processing and storage points of view, with the possibility of escalating in the future. Further, it solved the information backup problem, which was made manually, consolidating in only one physical logically-partitioned library the backup of the client’s 2 environments: IBM i and VMware.
Redsis carried out the installation services of the new infrastructure and the migration of the IBM DS3500 system storage to the new IBM Storwize V3700 system, the migration of IBM i machines to the new server and the migration of VMware virtual machines of the HS22 blades to the new x240.
